Welcome to the 5/4S class page. Our class teacher is Mrs Misselbrook.
Thanks for stopping by and having a look at our page which will inform you about many of the exciting things that are going on in our classroom and what we are learning about.
Please see below for any important parental information and electronic copies of letters, homework and spelling lists.
We will be updating the page regularly so please come again soon!
This term's topic is all about the Peak District. We will be learning all about the geography and features of the Peak District, key locations within the Peak District and the Legend of the Chained Oak in English.
This term, our Science topic is 'In a State'. This is all about the solids, liquids and gases.
In RE, we will be starting our learning with the unit: 'What does it mean if Christians believe God is holy and loving?'
During the Autumn term, we will be continuing our new MFL Spanish topic. We are looking forward to getting familiar with the Spanish language over the coming months.
5G have their PE lessons on a Monday and a Friday.
Clean PE kits should be brought in to school on a Monday morning and will be sent home for a wash on a Friday. It is essential that the kit is in school all through the week (even on non-PE days) as our timetable can sometimes change at short notice. Please see the Sutherland Primary Academy uniform policy for further guidance on PE kit items.
Spellings and Homework
Reading is incredibly important to your child's development. Once they have been assessed, children at Sutherland each have a banded reading book. Each time they read at home and get their diary signed by an adult, they are able to earn tokens which they can collect and convert in to additional Golden Stamps! Three adult signatures = 1 golden stamp; six adult signatures = 2 golden stamps. If you would like any advice on questions that you could ask your child or books, please speak to Mrs Misselbrook.
Golden homework is another great way to earn extra Golden Stamps! Homework tasks are handed out at the start of every term and the number of Golden Stamps is shown for each homework task. Children can earn a higher number of Golden Stamps for homework that is completed to a fantastic standard. Our current homework tasks can be found via the Spellings and homework tab above.
Maths homework: This can vary from one to two pieces a week, and supplements learning during that week's unit. We strongly encourage children to complete this task on a weekly basis.
Spellings are handed out at the start of each term in a booklet containing each week’s word list. These can be found via the Spellings and homework tab. Spelling tests take place each Friday and we have a competition between the Year 5 classes to see which class can get the highest average score. Come on 5/4S!
Thank you in advance, to all of the parents who actively support and encourage their children in reading and completing their homework- it will make such a difference to their progress.
