History
In History, we will be exploring “Why are Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale special?” The children will learn about the lives of these two remarkable women, discovering how they cared for sick and injured soldiers and helped improve nursing and healthcare.
We will compare their experiences, explore their achievements and investigate why they are remembered as significant figures in history today. Through photographs, stories and historical sources, the children will develop their understanding of the past, learn to ask and answer historical questions, and consider how these inspirational women made a difference to people's lives.
Our unit links to the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum for History, which asks children to learn about the lives of significant individuals from the past who contributed to national and international achievements.
It also supports children in developing an awareness of the past, understanding similarities and differences between periods, and using historical evidence to find out about people and events.
