Maths 🔢

In Year 2, we will continue to develop the children’s mathematical understanding and confidence through a range of practical and problem-solving activities. Following the National Curriculum for Mathematics, we will work with numbers up to 100, developing fluency with place value, addition and subtraction, and beginning to explore multiplication and division using the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables.

We will also learn about fractions, including halves, quarters and thirds, and develop our understanding of shape, position and direction, measurement, money and time.

Throughout the year, children will be encouraged to explain their mathematical thinking, make connections between different areas of maths and apply their knowledge to reasoning and problem-solving. Our aim is to develop children who are confident, resilient mathematicians who can use their skills in a variety of real-life situations.

Times Table Rockstars (TT Rockstars) is our new whole-school initiative to get pupils practising their times tables! Every child has been given a TT Rockstars login and we encourage them to spend a few minutes a day practising their times tables. Year 2 should be focusing on their 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s.
