Habitats 🐞🌿

This term, our Year 2 children will be exploring Habitats and discovering the amazing variety of plants and animals that live in different environments. We will learn about living, dead and things that have never been alive, and explore how living things depend on their surroundings to survive.

The children will investigate a range of habitats, from local environments such as our school grounds to habitats further afield, identifying the plants and animals that can be found there. We will learn how different habitats provide the things living organisms need, such as food, water, shelter and suitable conditions, and explore simple food chains.

The children will develop their scientific enquiry skills by observing, identifying, classifying and recording what they find, using appropriate scientific vocabulary.

This topic supports the Year 2 National Curriculum for Science, particularly the Living Things and Their Habitats objectives, helping children to understand the variety of life around them and the importance of different habitats.
