🌱 Exploring Plants
This term, our Year 1 children will be learning about plants through our exciting science topic, “Plant Detectives!”
The children will explore the world of plants by investigating how they grow, what they need to stay healthy, and the different parts of a plant. They will take on the role of “detectives,” asking questions and making discoveries through hands-on activities.
During this topic, the children will:
- Identify and name common plants and trees
- Learn about the different parts of a plant (roots, stem, leaves, and flowers)
- Explore what plants need to grow and stay healthy (water, light, and warmth)
- Observe changes in plants over time
- Take part in simple investigations and experiments
We will be giving the children lots of opportunities to explore outdoors, plant seeds, and watch them grow. This will help them develop their scientific skills, including observing, predicting, and talking about what they notice.
If you would like to support your child at home, you could look at plants in your garden or local area and talk about what you can see together.
We are looking forward to becoming fantastic Plant Detectives! 🌼
