1Y

Welcome to 1Y! smiley

Welcome to 1Y! I am Miss Griggs, the 1Y class teacher, and I work alongside our teaching assistant, the lovely Mrs Deaville. The wider Year 1 team is the wonderful Miss Craig and her teaching assistant Mrs Harding! We hope you enjoy your time in year 1 and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or worries!

The class email address is class-1y@sutherlandacademy.co.uk.

General Information

P.E Days

Our PE days are Friday (with Mr Meakin) and Tuesday (with Miss Griggs). Please ensure children bring their P.E kits in on Monday. They will then take them home at the end of the half term to be washed before bringing them back. If your child wears earrings, please ensure they are removed on PE days or they will not be able to participate in PE. Thank you!

Uniform

Please ensure that children have each piece of their uniform (and P.E kit) clearly labelled to avoid losing them.

Water

Where possible, please send your child in with a water bottle, even a plastic one. We have a limited number of cups in the classroom and to avoid them sharing and to keep them healthy, we advise they have a personal bottle. As per school policy, please ensure that you send your child in with water only.

Lunches

All KS1 children are entitled to free school meals. The hot dinner changes daily (see the Sutherland Sentinel for the weekly menu) with jacket potatoes and sandwiches/ wraps/ rolls with a range of fillings available every day. Children are also welcome to bring a home packed lunch. Children are free to change from school meals and sandwiches whenever they wish.

Points and Golden Activities

Every day, children can earn points (ranging from a 5 to an 8) by following the golden rules, completing golden homework and reading at home. These points are saved until the last day of term when they are used to participate in golden activities.

Behaviour for Learning Chart

Sutherland Academy uses a behaviour chart policy. Each child has a face on the behaviour chart and this can be moved up and down throughout the day. The chart is numbered from one to eight, with children starting each day on five. Five and above means that the children will get their stamp. Four and below are labelled 'Chance to Change' and children will always have the opportunity to move their faces back up should they be moved down. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
