Our Summer 1 History topic will be exploring all about our school. We will be asking the question: “How has our school changed over the past 10 years?”

Through this topic, the children will begin to develop their understanding of the past and how things change over time. We will look at what our school is like today and compare it with what it was like 10 years ago.

The children will:

• Look at photographs of the school from the past and present
• Talk about what is the same and what is different
• Learn about how classrooms, playgrounds, and school life have changed
• Ask questions and share their own ideas
• Begin to use simple historical language such as past, present, before, and now.

We may also explore memories from staff or visitors who can tell us what the school used to be like, helping to bring history to life.

This topic will support children in developing important skills such as observation, questioning, and speaking and listening, while also helping them understand that the world around them changes over time.
