Exploring the World 🌍

This term, our Year 2 children will be Exploring the World and developing their understanding of the world around them. We will begin by locating and naming the seven continents and five oceans, using globes, atlases and maps to identify different countries and places. The children will develop their understanding of human and physical geography, exploring and comparing different environments, including the features of hot and cold areas of the world.

We will also look at how people live in different places and identify similarities and differences between locations. Throughout the topic, the children will develop their geographical vocabulary, map-reading and observational skills, including using simple compass directions and creating and interpreting maps.

This topic supports the Year 2 National Curriculum for Geography, helping children to build their knowledge of the world and develop the skills needed to investigate and describe different places and environments.
